Marshall Mcluhan Essays - Marshall McLuhan, Media Studies

Marshall Mcluhan Author and social theorist Tom Wolfe once commented on Canadian professor Marshal McLuhans mantra, the medium is the message saying: The new technologiesradically alter the entire way people use their five senses, the way they react to things, and therefore, their entire lives and the entire society. It doesnt matter what the content of a medium like t.v. is 20 hours a day of sadistic cowboys caving in peoples teeth or Pablo Casals droning away on his cello. How is it that violence and the arts are effective in the same manner? Wouldnt the content be the most important factor in analyzing a television program? To understand Marshall McLuhans theories the reader must not be concerned with the symbolic content of what is being said or the cosmetic interpretation of the actual show but rather, look deeper into the whole infrastructure of the medium itself. McLuhan was prone to thinking up clever analogies and plays on words; and describing the content of a medium was no different. He described it as the juicy piece of meat carried by the burglar to distract the watchdog of the mind. We are the content of our media because the way we live life is largely a function of the way we process information. That information is presented and made available by way of a certain medium. In turn, each medium delivers a new message and a new form of human being, whose qualities are suited to it. The same words spoken face to face, printed on paper, or presented on television provide three different messages simply because of the different senses used to perceive it. McLuhan thought primary channels of communication change the way we look at the world around us. The dominant medium of any age governs people and reconnects modes of relationships with the world based on which sensory motor apparatus is being activated. Dominant epochs spring from the phonetic alphabet, printing press, and the telegraph, which were turning points in society because they changed the way people thought about themselves. To understand how and why people are affected by television, one must first become familiar with McLuhans idea of the electronic age. With the advent of television, the power of the printed word is decreased significantly. Books become made-for-t.v. movies and newspapers come alive with twenty-four hour a day headlines. Marshall McLuhan noted this increase in sound and touch and declared that instant communication was a return to prealphabetic oral tradition. The television connected people in a way that created an all at once world where closed human systems are rare. Suddenly everyone could share the same experience of watching images on t.v. at the same time with the same effects. To McLuhan, this meant returning to a single global village where the electronic media re-tribalize the human race. The whole world is becoming like the small town beauty shop where rumors and gossip include foreign ministers and movie stars. We all become busy bodies tracking everyone elses business. As we live, we search for meaning and the process of watching television is no different. However, it is the procedure used to compute this meaning that differs. Watching television has often been seen as a routine, unproblematic, passive process: the meanings of the programs are seen as given and obvious; the viewer is seen as passively receptive and mindless. (Livingstone p.3) This would mean that the television audience does not have to do anything but stare without thinking, and that the pictures we see do not leave any space for interpretation. However, we are a generation that has grown up learning to read television and interpret the conventions of television in order to put a meaning to the images shown. This creates the notion of reading television as natural. Marshal McLuhan also noted this active participation and in turn, labeled the television as a cool medium. A Cool medium is a low-definition display that draws a person in, requiring high participation to fill in the blanks. Although we do not realize all of the many processes required to view a television program, the watcher is in fact highly involved because of the low resolution monitor, mosaic screen, and thusly, greater mental participation. Free Essays on Us And UK Constitution Compared

‘Because the US constitution is written and codified it is superior to the UK constitution’ Do you agree? The American people made the conscious decision that they didn’t want an evolved constitution held together by traditions and statute law, like they had witnessed in England. They sought something better and came up with a codified constitution. One question remains; is the US constitution the improvement that they sought? One clear difference between the two constitutions is the fact that one is codified and the other isn’t. There are implications regarding the flexibility of the constitutions according to whether or not they are codified. The English constitution is flexible in the sense that there are no special majorities or arrangements needed to change the constitution, it can be done via the normal legislative process. In direct contrast to this the American constitution is rigid, it is entrenched against the whims of subsequent government who may want to change it, as it requires a substantial majority to make any amendments. With theses varying degrees of flexibility come both strengths and weaknesses. The strengths of the US constitution being entrenched are that it is clearly outlined and it cannot be subject to abuse. The strength of the UK constitution is in its flexibility the fact that it is evolved and has been able to change with the circumstances, for example the recent devolution in both Scotland and Wales. However such an crucial strength comes an equally important weakness, the fact that the constitution is not entrench and can be changed so easily leaves it vulnerable to abuse. Quality of Health Care Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words

Quality of Health Care - Term Paper Example Thus the quality and performance of hospital staff would be determined by a dichotomy of perception, one by private enterprise and the other by the government. Along with these developments raining and development of skills in the healthcare sector would lead to a new dimension both in the sphere of motivation and performance. Human Resource Training & Development (HRTD) policies and initiatives have received greater attention in the current period due to highly articulate employee skills training and development strategies at the individual healthcare sector. Thus the theoretical and empirical analysis of this paper is based on the available literature on the subject at a global level along with hospital's own training and quality improvement practices. This study basically draws on the hospitals' policy based convergence/divergence parameters for the continuous analysis for a proper articulation of the TQM strategy at broader level though its theoretical underpinnings are based on the need to focus attention on the evolving environment of competition. TQM policy and initiative based analysis is a near approximation of an otherwise intractable continuum which lacks definable contours and a logical conceptual framework of reference. While theoretical constructs underlying this approach have been presented as a uniform analysis there is very little attention being focused on the qualitative paradigm shift caused by the a priori and a posteriori catalytic changes (Creech, 1995). Thus the qualitative shift in this study is essentially based on these outcomes and the latest calibrations and/or benchmarks enunciated by researchers to establish a conceptual framework for analysis. As a business management strategy Six Sigma can be identified as a best practice in many industries including healthcare sector. Six Sigma simply defined as "a measure of quality for near perfection" (www.isixsigma.com). In fact some of the hospitals are focusing their attention on innovative ways to overcome some of the challenges in healthcare sector including create safety environment for patients and efficiency of the service delivery. Thus Six Sigma strategies can be used to enhance the quality of the service in the hospital by reducing the errors and variability in healthcare process. Therefore it can be used as a quality management method within the hospitals with sequence of steps to achieve desirable objectives such as improving the quality of the service, efficient service delivery, patient safety, reducing the cost and increasing the profits and so on. As a result hospital sectors are experiencing positive outcomes on patients, staff and the bottom line. Training and development process of the hospital's staff PhysiciansPhysicians would not be the same after extensive training. Apparently they would be in a better position than now especially with regard to their ready involvement. The government bureaucracy that makes policy decisions now would be defunct and a new breed of decision makers who are practicing physicians at the same time would make important strategic decisions in the future. As for the private hospitals, physicians would also be substantial

Financial Portfoli analysis & technical analysis ( risk ) Essay

Financial Portfoli analysis & technical analysis ( risk ) - Essay Example However procuring more capital through bond issue is likely to enhance the risk position of the business (Carter & Van Auken, 1990). The returns earned by the firm on the share prices are seen to be highly fluctuating. Returns on equity are also seen to be lower than the returns on bond. This indicates that the company pays off a large amount of its year end profits as interests to bondholders. As a result of the earnings available to shareholders becomes less. It also implies that the company does not earn adequate levels of earnings to cover both interests and tax related expenses. Considering the returns which the form provides to both the shareholders and the investors of bond, majority investors would prefer to invest in the bonds of the company (Reilly & Brown, 2011). Standard deviation essentially measures the deviation from the mean value. In case of the standard deviation values for the equity and bond, it is preferred that the results remain high. When the standard deviation values are high, it would indicate that the returns provided to the shareholders and bondholders are high. From the tabulated results it can be seen that the standard deviation value of returns provided to share holders are lower than the returns provided to the bondholders, indicating that investing in bonds is likely to be more profitable. Variance analysis is essentially the analysis of mean values. The higher the variance, it is predicted that the average value of the data set is high. In case of the variance calculated for the Emirates National Bank PJS stock and bond, it is seen that variance costs in respect of bond are higher than stock. Both covariance and correlation co efficient are adequately low for the company. This is due to the vast difference in the mean values of both the data set procured for stock and bond returns. From the overall analysis it is understood that investing the company’s bond would be more profitable

Real estate Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Real estate - Essay Example types of estates are basically determined from the type of language used in the ownership documents such as the deeds, wills, grants of land, lease and bills of sale, by which the real estate was acquired (Abts, 2002). Estates are usually distinguished by the different property rights vested in each type of real estate. Property may be transferred for various reasons, among them purchase, inheritance, gifts, and legal reasons (Abts, 2002). One can purchase real estate from another on the basis of willing buyer willing seller. This will involve transferring documents of ownership to indicate that the rights of ownership now belong to the buyer. Property can also be transferred in form of inheritance. An heir to the property will have to transfer the ownership documents to reflect his ownership. Property can also be given to another person as a reward or a gift. Property can also be transferred from one person to the other for various legal reasons, for instance, as part of a divorce case, if it was acquired illegally and has to be returned to the real owner. In all these circumstances, transfer of property has to be done carefully and often with the help of a legal advisor. In order to fully understand whatever type of property is being transferred, it is important to understand the various interests held by the two parties involved (Abts, 2002). Deeds can also affect the type of ownership being transferred. The various types of deeds involved in transfer of property include the general Warranty deed; this gives the new owner all the rights of ownership of the property without any limitations. A general warranty deed is good if property is being transferred to the buyer (Abts, 2002). A Special Warranty Deed on the other hand involves the grantor limiting the title warranty given to the grantee to anyone claiming from the grantor. The other important deed is the Quit Claim Deed, which conveys a grantor’s full interest in the property, but does not warrant that

GEs ethical values reflect in a wonderful example of how external and internal factors like globalization, technology, innovation, diversity, at national and international level will impact the way company managers operate and comply with ethical and compliance issues. GEs ethics impacts directly, not only the four functions of management namely planning, organizing, leading, and controlling but also the four factors globalization, technology, innovation, and diversity are closely related with each other. http://www.tutorvista.com/answers/ethical-values-definition/72821 http://www.writework.com/essay/ge-business-ethics-compliance 3 d) Core competencies: Definition:- It is cluster knowledge and gained abilities from its consistent efforts over the years, which are not easily imitiated.it helps to any organization to be competitive and help to become more creative and able to deliver good services towards customers. After a many years of dedication General Electrics introduced best practices GEs version of benchmarking, reengineering and energetic, highly participative employee-manager retreats, to get more new ideas from employees.  Ã‚  These are which will help GE to be more creative and were aimed at significantly increasing innovation in order to substantially increase productivity.  GE has major and important client is U.S  for many years. When GE applies the theory of core competency it become live and breathe innovation, at the very least, find it fundamental to their successes in the words of Peter Druker Every organization-not just businesses-needs one core competence:  Ã‚  innovation. http://www.winstonbrill.com/bril001/html/article_index/articles/201-250/article220_body.html Critical success factors: Mike Harvey (1984) suggests that, these are factors that are necessary when the company is looking to excel and outperform its competitors. Those are the things customers, shareholders and stakeholders generally value about a business and its activities. Importance of the critical success factors in an organization is because of it can help to focus on the building their capabilities or to identify if there are any lack of ability to build necessary critical success factors. Critical success factors are necessary to the success of General Electric: In world energy market GE compete with some another leading companies. Some rival companies are now to launch new greener products in market to make environment decarbonised.so in my opinion the competition will become more rigid in coming days Critical success factors could be in subject areas of gas turbines and energy efficient lights.GE already introduced its much heralded Ecomaginationproject.but it needs more diversity in above particular independent research. Task 4 4.1a) Amendment strategy in response to change in economic and business climate. GE is always committed to its customers for their better services; on the other side company has also to focus on large scale business opportunities. Though being a being a global leader in a number of high tech industries GE has identified a providing solution to face a problem of the future which could be interest of environmental issues. Therefore Mr.jeffrey has bought a new innovative and creative project namely Ecomagination When GE done analysis upon ecological survey he came on decision that there is a resources problem of global warming and supply of oil and water which were most prominent. And its going to be more demand in coming decades. So avoid future imbalance of certain things GE has started to invest in ecologically friendly alternatives to existing technologies. (Global Energy Formation, Matts Larsson 2009.Pllgrave Macmillan, Page 119) 4. b) GE responded to the changes in its environment. As explained above GE accompanied changes and following their strategies as per creation a innovation Ecomagination.so it can be prove that GE responded to the changes in its environment. The GE ecomagination annual report provides updates on the progress on each of its ecomagination commitments. 1. Double investment in clean research and development   GE invested $1.5 billion on ecomagination RD, reaching the commitment to double our annual investment by 2010 one year ahead of schedule. GE continues to be committed to unleashing new technology.. 2. Increase revenues from ecomagination products   In 2009, ecomagination revenues grew six percent to $18 billion even in a challenging global environment. 3. Reduce its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and improve the energy efficiency of its operations   GE reduced its GHG emissions by 22% compared to 2004. GE improved its energy intensity 34% compared to 2004, surpassing the goal of 30% in 2012. http://www.genewscenter.com/Press-Releases/GE-Surpassed-5-Billion-in-Research-Development-Investment-in-ecomagination-Technology-2902.aspx 4 c) As per my concern following will be the major functional areas of GE. 1. Research and Development Department GE Global Research is the hub of technology development for all of GEs businesses having 10 global laboratories organized by scientific disciplines all focused on leveraging technology breakthroughs across multiple GE businesses. GE established laboratories in different continents and their people come from the US, Europe, China and India collaborates and builds on each success. http://www.ge.com/company/research_development.html GE diverse its industrial lab in the world. From aircraft engines to power generation to financial businesses and even television network and movie studios, GE Global Research can leverage technology across industries and across scientific disciplines. http://www.ge.com/company/factsheets/grc.html 2. What Dogs Need :: Papers

What Dogs Need People and animals need the same things to be happy and healthy. Just like you, your dog needs food, water, shelter, grooming, health care, and love. Puppy eating.Below shows things, which help dogs to stay happy and healthy! Water For Your Dog ------------------ Your dog needs at least 2 dishes filled with fresh water everyday. One should be in the house and the other should be outside. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The water should always be kept clean, cool and fresh. If the water gets dirty or warm during the day, your dog would be very happy to get a cool refill. A dog in his doghouse.Did you know that your dog's water would freeze in the winter when it is very cold? It will also get too warm in hot, summer weather. If the water is too warm, it cannot cool your dog's body. Here are some special tips to help keep your dog safe and happy in hot and cold weather. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Shelter For Your Dog -------------------- People and animals need shelter from the harsh elements of weather. Wild animals go to their den or cave to escape the hot sun and cold rain. A shelter provides safety from other animals that might cause them harm. A shelter is a safe area to call home. A dog without a fenced yard or enclosed patio is a dog that is not safe. Dogs that are allowed to run loose will eventually become lost, stolen or hit by a car. This is not a safe situation for your dog and it is against the law. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- In many families, dogs do live outside. That's okay as long as they have shelter outside from the bad weather. A special doghouse is good; access to a garage is fine, as long as there are no dangers for the dog to find. A bed inside of the doghouse or garage would be as welcome as flowers in springtime. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Psychological Effects of Bisexuality

What is bisexuality? Synthesizing the predominant theories of bisexuality, Smiley (1997) suggested the following definition: Bisexuality is a sexual orientation in which an individual: experiences a combination of sexual and affectional attractions to members of both sexes; engages to varying degrees in sexual activities with both sexes; and self-identifies as bisexual in a way that is consonant with personal, social, political, and lifestyle preferences (Smiley, 375). Bisexual and the transgender people are two less visible segments of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. According to the authoritative Kinsey Report, which compiles data on human sexuality, almost eight in 10 people have some characteristics of bisexuality, wherein an individual feels attracted to both sexes (Klien, 13). However, bisexuals have to confront not just the homophobia of the straight community, which brands them as promiscuous, even though most are in strictly monogamous relationships, they also face derision from the gay community, which considers them closet gays, hiding behind the veneer of bisexuality because they are afraid to come out. Not surprisingly, therefore, that a recent study by the Australian National University found that bisexuals â€Å"had the worst mental health on measures of anxiety, depression and suicidality (Hall, 28). Tommy (name changed) Hogan, who came to Los Angeles, California nearly two years ago for graduate studies in Health Administration and works for Watts Health Foundation, says in adolescence he found himself being attracted to both boys and girls. In the gender-segregated society we lived in, opportunities for `fooling around' were much more readily available with peers of the same sex. I thought everyone in my circle was like me. So when I came to the Los Angeles it was very surprising to find that there were some individuals who were not attracted to men and others who were not attracted to women† (T. Hogan, personal communication, October 26, 2002). He wouldn't say he was gay. He would only say that he was sleeping with other men. He liked to call it â€Å"M-S-M,† men sleeping with men, you know, Brothers on the down low. I called it being a bisexual. The first thing that Tommy made clear to me is that bisexuality does not describe one sort of behavior, but rather a whole range of behaviors and lifestyles. Talking openly about sexual orientation within as private a community as the African American community is something that is not often done. Tommy revealed his disappointment at the community’s lack of acceptance of non-traditional lifestyles. According to a generally agreed upon definition, it isn't necessary for a person to be equally attracted to men and women and to be involved in multiple relationships, to be bisexual. In fact, a person can be celibate and still be bisexual. It's all a matter of whom he or she finds attractive and how he or she identifies himself or herself. There is no behavioral â€Å"test† to determine whether or not one is bisexual. Bisexuals come in all shapes and sizes, from all occupations, and with all levels of educational, racial and cultural background. When Tommy told his father of his attraction to both men and women, his father simply said that though these desires were natural and most people had them, eventually he expects Tommy to get married and have a family. â€Å"Even though his message was that it was preferable to get married to a woman, I was struck by his statement that same-sex feelings were natural, and by the fact that he didn't put same-sex desire down by calling it a perversion or sin† (T. Hogan, personal communication, October 26, 2002). Hogan says, â€Å"People have this misconception that bisexuals are promiscuous. I have been in strictly monogamous relationships and most of us are perfectly content with that. If people have made up their mind something is abnormal they can come up with as many reasons as to why it is so, and if there are people who think otherwise, they too can come up with a variety of reasons to prove their point. Why can't we approach this from a humanistic viewpoint that people have the right to love whomsoever they want to, as long as it is consensual? Tommy is very content with the bisexual lifestyle he is living. He seems to not know whether or not he will always be this way. I got a sense from our interview that he wasn’t happy being this way. He begin the express the importance of how being very religious he could not live this type of lifestyle. I would have to agree that the Bible does speak against any type of homosexual behavior. Tommy and I have discussed this issue on more t han one occasion. He seems to be confused as to what he really wants. It is a battle for him to be with a woman and be attracted to a man that is in the same company. Tommy at the present lives by himself so he doesn’t feel as if there are any rules he has to live with. He currently resides in the Hollywood area. He is comfortable living this lifestyle and his community contributes to this. Tommy has many friends and he also dates several women. Many individuals do not know that he is bisexual. Individuals might suspect that Tommy is bisexual but they have no confirmation. I am a close friend to Tommy and I actually have had the pleasure of knowing him for two years. I also might add that I have been attracted to Tommy for these two years and have dated him. I do accept his lifestyle as being bisexual because I care about him. But, I choose not to be in a relationship with Tommy because I do not want to risk my life or my health. We have an open and honest relationship so he understands that I have feelings for him but I in know way want to proceed with a relationship. But, if he chooses not to participate in this lifestyle in the future I just might end up being with him. But as one of his friends along with the others, he is accepted and is treated no differently than the next person. Tommy always feels comfortable in talking with me about his sexuality. He seems to be at this point in his life trying to deal with issues in the past that he feels might have led him to being attracted to both women and men. He has never mentioned to me about anything that stemmed from his past that might have triggered this imbalance in sexuality. I personally accept anyone who chooses to live a gay, lesbian or bisexual lifestyle. However, I do not condone dishonesty in sexual relationships with partners who have no knowledge of each other’s sexuality. It is really hard to discuss the responses of others, many individuals just do not know. Tommy is a very nice looking young man and is very professional and classy. He has all the traits that women are seeking in this young adult age. I believe that if women knew of his lifestyle as a bisexual they might not be as interested in him as before. As I mentioned many people question his sexuality but he has encountered no prejudice against him in that regard. Tommy indicates that it wasn’t until he came to Los Angeles that he decided to practice his lifestyle as a bisexual. Los Angeles makes it a lot easier to be bisexual, gay or a lesbian and be accepted in society. He feels most comfortable here and being able to go out in public with another man. He felt as though when he lived with his family he could not practice bisexuality. He never carried out sexual relationships with men until he came to Los Angeles. The sexuality of Black males as well as females is enmeshed with racial stereotyping thus the issues of gays and bisexual blacks is a particularly sensitive one so far as the Black community is concerned. The notion is that bisexuals are confused, promiscuous and greedy. To me promiscuity is really an oxymoron. It’s down to the individual needs and requirement of that person. I will never have an issue with anyone who chooses to be bisexual but in these days it is just unsafe to be with someone who is bisexual because AIDS is so prevalent and many individuals are just not honest with their sexual orientation.

Ethical Issues in International Business Essay

Tip usually refers to an offer made after services have been rendered. It is not of a legal concern. However, bribing is something of serious concern and it is questionable. Bribing to get a business contract is to secure favor against a party. However, when tip is offered in large amount in order to get a bigger table, it cannot be said as similar to bribing. But it has very little ethical concern compared to bribing for securing a business contract. Securing a better table is having a favor by offering a heavy tip but it does not stand equivalent to bribery. Bribing is more serious because it can affect business dealings and contract loss of the opposing party against which bribe is offered. For example, if two parties wanted to have same contract, but one of them bribed to gain the contract then the other party is a looser and lost their contract and business. So just securing a good table is not of very serious concern as compared to securing of business contract. Bribing is to harm others and gain favor when other party was strong enough to beat the competition. Securing a better table is much less serious issue and it does not involve any legal concerns and does not harm others. But though, it is just getting an advantage over others and getting better place than others. But now-a-days people have started offering heavy tips to have a better table. The moral here is this that thinking of oneself as more important than others. Though in both cases it somewhat looks the same that you’re offering money to get favor and advantage over others. But deeper consequences, legal issues and ethical issues are involved in case of bribing. Securing a table does not involve any legal issues or ethical issues of deeper concern. Tipping cannot be said compatible to bribing. Bribery is far more immoral attitude compared to securing a table. It involves breaking a deal with one party when it already had 90% chances to secure the deal before bribery. Hence, the company who actually deserved the right to have a contract looses it and the one who were not qualified get the deal by offering bribe. Thus, it is an immoral approach, promise breaking, and snatching of rights of other party. It may also involve some legal issues when damages incurred are severe because of bribe. Alienation of agency is one of the worst immoralities, and it happens when bribe-taker’s company breaks the deal or contract with another party after receiving the bribe. There are several other severe consequences of bribe apart from alienation of agency (Andrade, 1985). Therefore, it is understandable that bribe is totally an immoral act. And sometimes it becomes so necessary to bribe that in certain countries nothing gets done if you don’t give bribe (Koukl, 1996). Bribe also results in injustice and prevent justice among the parties. Securing a good table at restaurant, though, to seek a better place in restaurant and to have better service and favor over others is not a severe case as bribery is. Many restaurant owners admit that there is ‘little choice between the tables and only to make more money we reserve some fancy tables. ’ Our morals and ethical issues are not much of concern in having better table. But bribery has several and immoral consequences.

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Having A National History Essay

The Advantages and Disadvantages of Having A National History - Essay Example Man's cultural heritage pervades our lives almost from birth. History is the story of what men and women have done, of what they have left for others to enjoy and suffer. People have made fantastic blunders and noble contributions, but regardless of the quality of human activity it has given us a legacy of civilization, not always fine and noble but on the whole there has been progress both material and moral. Man's outlook is basically hopeful and there has been some justification for this. As people look at history, if they are guided in the true spirit of criticism and imbued with the necessity to look for the truth, they cannot help being inspired by the heroic proportions of their ancestors' struggle for existence and a better life. Such is the history as it was introduced to the ancient Greek world by Herodotus. After about a million years of human struggle out of the fog and ignorance of primeval antiquity during which time man's history was in the hands of the gods. Herodotus gave the story of humanity back to man; thus rightly being called the "father of history." He did this in a very simple way, in a manner that we sometimes take for granted and therefore overlook; he simply observed people and wrote about what they did and thought. For the first time history was more than a mere symbolic record. Man was made aware of his heritage. He introduced humanism into the chronicles of war, degradation and the mysterious ways of Providence. He endowed men historically with freedom of will to make choices and to mold the course of events in which they were caught up.

Environment and society Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Environment and society - Essay Example However, this may not affect the general public. Unhealthy AQI, 150 t0 200 (red), has an association with health effects upon the general public. Here, sensitive group members suffer more severe effects than others. Very unhealthy AQI, 201 to 300 (purple) comes with emergency conditions health warnings. This seems to affect the entire population. Maroon color (hazardous AQI- 301 TO 500) means health alert that can come with health effects upon all people. The current AQI, Friday November 01 2013 at 5:00 AM EST is good but with some moderate AQIs in some states. There are also negligible spots of â€Å"Unhealthy for sensitive groups† AQI (AirNow 1). We also have unhealthy AQI as a spot around Spokane. The forecast AQI is good with some spots of moderate AQI. The factors that could be responsible for the differences between the current National AQI and the forecast AQI could be particulate matter content of the air and the prevailing winds. The AQI loop shows a general green, good AQI with the extreme western part showing moderate AQI. The colors keep changing from time to time, but the general good, green AQI is maintained. The loop for ozone is green showing that the lower atmosphere is free of harmful ozone. PM loop although covered by green, good AQI, keeps changing in some parts. The observed difference is because ozone disruption or changes take a long time to be noticed. The AQI for Philadelphia is good with a value of 33 (AirNow 1). Current conditions are moderate with the health message to unusually sensitive people to avoid prolonged exertion. The map for ozone shows a general good condition with stability. The current PM for Philadelphia is good, but with moderate conditions to the western and southern parts. The process of carbon capture and sequestration takes place through three steps. These include capture of carbon dioxide from industrial processes and power plants (EPA 1). The captured carbon dioxide is then
